As the magic of Halloween filled the air, many superheroes and princesses appeared at Edison Elementary’s first Trunk or Treat! Halloween has always been an exciting time for the youngest Pirates in our district, and who could blame them? That’s why we wanted to spread excitement to the entire community, by inviting family members, friends, and local businesses to participate in our first Trunk or Treat!
“It was great seeing all the community and family members who came to bless our kids that day,” said first grade teacher, Alysa Ernst. “I was pleasantly surprised with the sheer amount of people participating. I thought it flowed great this year!”
Friends from all over decorated their vehicles and even dressed the part too! Our little Pirates had the chance to visit the circus, give Bluey a hug, and even help wrangle some cattle!
“I’m always blown away by how the Bristow community ALWAYS shows up and shows out for our students,” added Assistant Principal, Heather Adams. “The cleverness, effort, and energy of each ‘trunk’ was amazing!”
Vehicles lined the school’s parking lot on 10th Street. Students were able to visit each trunk, receive a special treat, and share smiles and giggles along the way! What started in a little office with a small dream, hoping for 8 participants, quickly blossomed into something truly BOO-tiful!
“We know we have some students who aren’t able to trick or treat and we have members of our community who live in areas that don’t always attract children, so we wanted a way to bridge the gap in a safe and fun space,” said coordinator, Jen Taylor.
Because we had such a huge outpouring of support, we’ve already decided to add it to the calendar next year! “My big wish for next year would be an even bigger event,” said Edison Elementary School Principal, Tammy Shelton. She dreams of adding a petting zoo, bouncy houses, more cars to the Trunk or Treat and even a costume parade! “While I have BIG ideas, I love collaborating with and working with the community, so share your ideas too,” Shelton added.
